The girls are excited... We have 5 players that will be joining us on the trip. Jacqui and Alina are from my old, older team. Courtney is from Stockton and just joined Nor Cal's state champs, Modesto Ajax. Also, we have 2 girls from Virginia, Meghan and Anna. Right now, we are in Houston for a 3 hour layover, and the players are playing 5 v 2 next to Continental's ticket counter.

What a day!!! We were scheduled to land in Rio at 8:00, but due to fog, we had to circle around for a little bit... eventually, there was a need to refuel, so we headed to Sao Paolo. It turns out Sao Paolo was overcrowded with planes refueling, so we headed to another nearby airport. By 11:30ish we eventually landed in Rio, but by the time we all got through customs, we didn't get to Transamerica Flat, our hotel, until 2:30. We checked in to the the hotel and headed to Frontera and watched Brazil beat Chile. Afterwards, players were tired, so we finished the evening with a team meeting and everyone was in their rooms by 7:30. Tomorrow is a big day with early morning games scheduled
at 10:00am. Pro Select boys vs. Zico Academy and Pro Select girls vs. Vasco De Gama. Stay tuned....

This morning we played Vasco de Gama. In the first half, we played their GU-17 team. About 10 minutes into the game, Christina was fouled in the box, and Tierra scored to put the team up 1-0. By the 20 minute mark, most of the girls were very tired due to the long travel day the day before. Morgan and Heather had to use their inhalers. All players played in and played in the first half, and the team squeeked out the half with the lead. At half time, we were informed that we needed to change uniform colors because Vasco's GU-15 team was going to take the field against us. The long flight on the player's legs took was evident and Vasco scored early in the 2nd half to tie the game 1-1. With 20 minutes remaining, a famous Brazilian FLOP gave Vasco ANOTHER free kick which put them up 2-1. The game was wide open and there were several scoring opportunities from both teams. To be continued...
